The Biomedical Informatics Unit (BMIU) at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, was established in 2022 to advance the use of data, digital systems, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. The unit brings together clinicians, researchers, technologists, and policy experts to explore how informatics and AI can be responsibly applied to improve patient care, research, and health system efficiency.
BMIU focuses on building strong foundations for digital health through ethical AI practices, secure data governance, high-performance research infrastructure, and capacity building across the institution. The unit works closely with multiple clinical, academic, and administrative departments within CMC, as well as national and international partners, to ensure that digital innovation is aligned with patient needs, institutional values, and societal priorities.
